At Least He Put The Seat Back Down

After racking my brains for a full 20 minutes and exhausting all of the technological know-how at my disposal, my comments are now…
wait for it…
Still broken!
And since my leisure funds have gone the way of leisure suits, paying someone to fix it is sort of out of the question.
So, that brings me to…you. If you have any knowledge of wordpress, could you help a sister out?
Email me because, well, my comments are broken.

**Update: Lisa at Simply His is simply amazing. Thanks, Lisa! Comments are open and working! **

Wordless Wednesday at 5 Minutes for Mom

Summer Rules

A sweet little mushroom house we found in the woods

Inspired by Wise Craft’s Rules for Summer, GW and I have come up with a list of our own.

  • Be dressed and ready for the day every weekday morning by nine.
  • Spend some time outside everyday, even if it is raining.
  • Any chores not done during the week must be completed on Saturday.
  • Go someplace new every week.
  • Do a little reading, a little writing and a little bit of math each day. If a little is too little, do a lot.
  • Try it yourself first.
  • It’s okay to watch tv on Saturdays and an occasional weekday after dinner.
  • Fruits and vegetables may be eaten at any time of day except for right after a meal.
  • Don’t interrupt Mom while she is in the bathroom. Whatever it is can usually wait.
  • Always keep a little cash on hand for the ice-cream man.

What are you doing this summer?

Victorious

Last week GW participated in her first swim meet. She told me that she wrote “I am scared to death!” in her diary in anticipation of the event.
Here she is right before her first event, swimming freestyle in a four-person relay:
a bundle of nerves
Always dramatic, she whispered to me, “I’m absolutely terrified.” I gave her a hug and told her to do her best and that she’d never have to do this for the first time again. Once her race was over, she’d be an expert.
She took her mark and got ready…
On your mark
…and took off like her hair was on fire!
go!
I’ve never seen her swim so fast. She managed to bring her team from fourth place to a second place finish.
Here she is right after:

Victorious.

Wilderness Princess

Isn’t it fun to watch little girls play with their toys?
072
The care they take in posing everyone, just right, before the real play commences…
073
Or do I have it backwards? Is it the set up that is the fun part of playing? It certainly seems that way for GW sometimes.
074
She takes her time getting everything just so, and then
078
Wait a minute – are these the right pictures?
What ever happened to my little princess?
079
The one who was so girly she refused to wear anything but dresses?
030
She’s a complicated child…

PS: I wasn’t really intending to post this morning. I was am planning on going for a run, but I stopped to check my email and it hit me: the urge to update.
After all, Shasta’s digging is no longer hot news. But the problem, you see, is that something is wrong with my blog. The comment function is broken. I think I screwed up the CSS but I can’t fix it. And it’s not really in the budget to pay someone else to fix it right now, so it’s going to stay broken for awhile. If you’d like to make my day comment on this or any post, just email me. My address is under the contact tab, up there .
Apologies to you non-blog types that didn’t understand a word of that last paragraph.
Now I’m off for my run.

The Diggingest Dog

Mo-om! Shasta is digging again!
008
Shasta! No!

024
No, Shasta! Bad dog!

Dum de dum de dum… what a nice day…
What the… Shasta, what have you been doing?
028
Who me? Nothing…
Shasta! Have you been digging holes again?
027
Um…no?
Then what is that?
025
Busted.

Mom! Come out here and see what Shasta did!
Great. What has that #$@% dog been doing this time?

032

Is that a…?

033
It is! She dug a mole out of the yard!

Mo-om! Shasta’s digging again!
029
What a good dog!

Okay…so there were a few words. If you want a truly Wordless Wednesday, go here.
